- Feature Films (Narrative & Documentary):
- Description: Original stories or compelling non-fiction narratives with a run-time typically exceeding 40 minutes. We look for strong storytelling, compelling characters, and a clear directorial vision that captivates audiences for the duration.
- Short Films (Narrative & Documentary):
- Description: Concise, impactful cinematic works under 40 minutes. Often a showcase for emerging talent, we seek innovative concepts, tight pacing, and a complete narrative arc within a limited timeframe.
- Animation:
- Description: Celebrates the artistry and innovation in animated storytelling, regardless of technique (2D, 3D, stop-motion, experimental). We value originality, technical skill, and imaginative worlds.
- Experimental Films:
- Description: Pushing the boundaries of cinematic language and form. We encourage unconventional narratives, abstract concepts, and bold visual/auditory experimentation that challenges traditional filmmaking.
- Student Films:
- Description: Dedicated to nurturing the next generation of filmmakers. Open to currently enrolled students or recent graduates (within 12 months) whose films showcase promising talent and a developing voice.
- Music Videos:
- Description: Visual interpretations that enhance and elevate a musical piece. We look for creative synergy between audio and visuals, strong narrative or conceptual cohesion, and impactful cinematography.
- New Media & VR/AR:
- Description: Embracing the frontier of interactive and immersive storytelling. This category welcomes films, experiences, or projects that utilize virtual reality, augmented reality, interactive narratives, or other innovative digital platforms to engage audiences.
Our Submission Guidelines: Your Checklist for Success.
To ensure a smooth submission process and give your film the best chance, please adhere to the following key guidelines:
- Eligibility:
- Films must have been completed within the last 1 year from the current festival year.
- Films must not have been widely distributed or available publicly (e.g., major streaming platforms, broad theatrical release) prior to IMAFF’s festival dates, to maintain premiere status where applicable.
- All non-English language films must include English subtitles.
- Filmmaker must hold all necessary rights to their submitted work.

- A high-quality digital screener (Vimeo unlisted, YouTube unlisted, or secure platform link).
- Completed online entry form.
- Synopsis (short and long versions).
- Director’s Statement.

- Film poster (high-resolution).

After you’ve successfully submitted your film, here’s what to expect:
- Confirmation: You will receive a confirmation email from IMAFF Awards shortly after submission.
- Notification Date: All official selection notifications will be sent out by 10th /Dec/25. Please do not contact us regarding submission status before this date.
- Official Selection: If your film is selected, you will receive a detailed acceptance package with further instructions regarding festival logistics, screening schedules, and promotional materials.
